I’ve always had issues with my digestion, I can remember even as a child getting the worst cramps, seized over in pain, followed by terrible umm.. bathroom needs! I remember that this kept me home from school and work on some days right into my early adulthood. Because I couldn’t make a connection between any specific foods and my physical reaction, it became a bit of a fear for me when I had important plans or events scheduled, as this reaction seemed to come out of nowhere and was disruptive and uncomfortable to say the least. I am also a hairstylist and I am also largely involved in the local business association so you can imagine times when I’ve been with clients or in a business meeting or event, (or even on a date!) and be either seized up in pain or having to excuse myself to get to the bathroom and then not coming back for 10 minutes, or having to go home altogether, in pain, embarrassed, uncomfortable.. it sucked!
My doctor diagnosed me with IBS, Irritable Bowel Syndrome. But that’s about all he told me! “It sounds like you have IBS, here is a prescription for when symptoms arise”. That was it. Nothing about diet or exercise, nothing about how to prevent it from arising in the first place. So I just used the medication as needed, and made sure I had an extra pill or immodium on hand at all times.
I had always been a fairly clean eater, I didn’t eat a lot of processed foods but definitely more then than I do now. In March 2015 I started drinking Shakeology daily, and added in Shakeology Boost Power Greens as soon as they launched it, and I haven’t had a symptom since! I do eat less processed food as well, because I continue to follow the 21 day fix, 21 day fix extreme, portion fix, hammer and chisel, or CIZE eating plan (the ones with the colour coded containers), this just fits so perfectly into my life I can’t see myself giving it up ever. So that also keeps me on track with not consuming foods that are unnatural or bad for me, but that’s not to say that I never do. I go out to eat, I go to friend’s houses, I order pizza sometimes, I enjoy a glass of wine (or a few!) or a beer or cocktail now and again. I am not perfect! The one thing that I do continue to use daily however, and seems to have wiped out my IBS symptoms, is my Vegan Shakeology with Shakeology Boost Power Greens! I am happy to say I haven’t renewed my IBS prescription or bought immodium since March of 2015!
